When I first imagined this instrument, I never thought folks would want it in “standard” banjo tuning. I thought a tuning in the ukulele range would be best, but you have all led the way, asking for these in open g tuning. It is likely most common as a travel instrument, or a smaller lightweight banjo that is comfortable on the couch at home, especially for folks with physical limitations. Whenever I finish one and I get to know it a bit before shipping, I am always surprised by the sustain and by the volume. After I adjust my touch to the shorter scale, I am rewarded with a fun banjo experience, without having to deal with the “big” banjo. For this instrument, I chose some wavy/curly Oregon Walnut that I got from Goby in Portland. I contrasted it with some Pistachio from California orchards, with some nice, bright sap wood. Thanks Carol!
